A risky move or was it bull’s eye, that was the question with Babymetal. Our conclusion is the last one, this Japanese band with three young kawaii singers/dancers were the point of discussion of the whole festival, but they owned the Large Rock Hand Stage. The people, masses consisting of fans but also curious ones, went nuts, and while the curious ones really liked it or quickly left after the second song.
Babymetal consists of fine musicians, who entered the stage during the ‘Fox God’ intro and showed their musical talent during ‘Babymetal Death’, while the ‘dollgirls’ only had use to fire up the audience on each side of the stage. Their first lines of singing was during the megahit ‘Gimme Chocolate!’ this was what most people wanted to hear, but even after this song lots of people stayed.
The voice of lead singer Su-metal even sounds higher live than on the album and live it looked like Yuimetal and Moametal had a little less input, but the choreography of the three girls was fantastic song after song. There was no lack of activity, a circle pit during the third song Catch Me If You Can which sounded great and loud instrumental and at the end a Wall Of Death, Su-metal’s will is law. There was a calmer bit too, Meta Taro showed the cute side of the girls all the way while Su-metal sang beautifully on Ijime Dame Zettai. Also their new hits ‘Karate’ and ‘Road Of Resistance’ where they were waving with flags did fantastic. We are full of praise about this show and atmosphere, just put them on the main stage next time, please!
