Babymetal accepts the ‘GQ Men of the year award’ with the statement of ‘We are women who are the only ones, without a second’
Babymetal received the ‘Discovery of the Year’ award as a special award for their ‘GQ Men of the Year 2015’ award.
The ‘GQ Men of the Year’ is an award that the magazine ‘GQ Japan’ has been holding since 2006 and it honors the men who show overwhelming activity in the each respective category. The award Babymetal was granted, ‘Discovery of the Year’ is a special award for people who can be expected to go on to great accomplishments and was established for the first time with this year’s award.
The 3 members of Babymetal made their way on to the stage to receive their award following the appearances of Matayoshi Naoki, Hakase Tarou, Suzuki Ryouhei, Matsuoka Shuuzou, Yoshida Kotarou and Goroumaru Ayumu. The girls smiled happily after receiving their trophy from the ‘GQ JAPAN’ editor, Suzuki-san. Representing the group, Su-metal took the microphone and said, ‘We are very happy to be granted with such a lovely award today. Thank you so much.’
When asked her impressions upon receiving the award at the Talk session, Su-metal said, ‘We wonder with a feeling of unease about whether we are worthy of standing alongside such wonderful people on the stage and yet we are very happy about it. We want to give this award to the wonderful fans who have supported us for so long.’ She went on to look back on this year’s activities saying, ‘It was a year filled with many new experiences including a 10-country World Tour and the reception of music awards in England. We were able to spread the music that we think is interesting to a wide range of people and found that so many said, ‘Babymetal’s music is really interesting’. ‘We sing in Japanese but at our live performances the overseas fans sing along together with us. Now that we know that music can overcome the barriers of language, we hope to be able to convey our music to a large number of various people’, said Su-metal expressing her future wishes.
When asked by the MC what is her ‘conception of the ideal woman’, Su-metal presented a placard upon which was written, ‘Yuuitsu Muni’ <Only one with no second>, meaning that we wish to ‘become an only one presence on this pathless path’ and will serve as a model for the ideal woman for those strong in mind. On the other hand, when she was asked, ‘In what situation do you wish you had been born as a man?’, she answered, ‘When I attempt to lift a heavy object I think, “Ah, if only I were a man” displaying a soft smile. Su-metal’s cute answers softened the hearts of Yoshida, Matsuoka and the other men who received the ‘GQ Men of the Year’ award.
